Biblical Manhood & Womanhood

Lead By Living…

2 Timothy 1

READ: 2 Timothy 1

Godly Leaders are called by the will of GOD to preach, teach, and proclaim the Gospel. And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” - Mark 16:15

- 2 Timothy 1:1-2 - “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God according to the promise of the life that is in Christ Jesus, (kata epangelia zoe en Christos Iesous: to proclaim life in Christ Jesus) 2 To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Godly leaders have and live a life of sincere Faith.  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful..” - Hebrews 10:23

- 2 Timothy 1:3-5 - “I thank God whom I serve, (render homage, worship) as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. 4 As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere (genuine, not hidden) faith, a faith that dwelt (to dwell in and influence) first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.

Godly Leaders must preserve all the Lord has entrusted to them.

And I, when I came to you, brothers,[a] did not come proclaiming to you the testimony[b] of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. ”

- 1 Corinthians 2:1-2

- 2 Timothy 1:6-7 - For this reason (cause) I remind you to fan into flame (kindle, inflame one’s mind, strength and zeal) the gift of God, (gift of evangelism) which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit (disposition or influence that fills and governs) not of fear (cowardice) but of power (His power) and love (His Love) and self-control. (His soundness of mind)

[fear not in preaching, teaching, and proclaiming the Gospel]

Godly Leaders must not be ashamed of the Gospel and must be willing to suffer. Anyone who goes into ministry must learn to suffer well, especially Pastors (Elders).

Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.” - 1 Peter 4:16

- 2 Timothy 1:8-12 - “8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, (His captive) but share in suffering (suffer with, together) for the gospel by the power of God, (His power) 9 who saved us (to make a partaker of salvation) and called us (to invite {friend} and summon {king}) to a holy calling, (sacred embrace of His salvation, kingdom, station of life) not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave (didomi: grant, deliver, commit) us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested (to reveal, made known) through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life (zoe: eternal life) and immortality (incorruptibility, imperishableness) to light through (dia: by means of) the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12 which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able (doo-na-tos: has the power, mighty, able) to guard (foo-las-so: to guard, protect, keep from being snatched) until that day what has been entrusted (entrust to one’s faithful keeping, steward) to me.

Godly Leaders keep (guard with their lives) the faith and purpose to live in obedience.

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” - Ephesians 5:15-17

- 2 Timothy 1:13-14 - Follow (keep, take hold, seize) the pattern (the example to be copied and modeled) of the sound words (hygiaino {hoo-gee-i-no} logos: healthy words of Christ) that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard (obey, watch, keep from being snatched) the good (kalos: proper, beautiful, valuable or virtuous) deposit entrusted to you.

Men and Women of God seek out opportunities to serve and minister to others.

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo (show the way, lead, give preference) one another in showing honor.(value, specialness, preciopusness)

- Romans 12:9-10

- 2 Timothy 1:15-18 - “You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains, 17 but when he arrived in Rome he searched for me earnestly and found me— 18 may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that day!—and you well know all the service he rendered at Ephesus.
