Teach Us To Pray

What is Prayer (proseuchomai: pros - near or come before & uechomai - pray, will, or wish)? Many have said, including me, that it’s communication with God or a conversation with God. It’s so much more than that.

  • The Doctrine of Prayer is a means of grace offered according to the will of God expressed in accordance with His word. Prayer is the language of the soul, an “…opening up of our hearts before God.” - John Calvin

  • Prayer reveals more about your heart than the wallet in your back pocket or your purse.

  • Prayer is about aligning ourselves with God’s will not our own. Matthew 26:36 - PROSEUCHOMAI

Model For Prayer:

  • Exalt or Praise - Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

  • Surrender - Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

  • Ask - Give us this day our daily bread,

  • Repent - and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

  • Petition - And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

  • Exalt or Praise - For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, amen.” (not found in earliest manuscripts & most modern translations)
